Torture

I am training for a 5K. I do not think I have ever put myself through so much torture in my life. I hate running with a passion. I want to do it just so I can see for myself that it can and will get easier. I am excited for the race- and I am excited for it to be over! Maybe by the end I will enjoy running!? Every one tells me the first 5K is the hardest.
So- any advice you have when it comes to running would be helpful. I know little, and I could use any help! Thanks! Oh- and if you are interested in running the race with me let me know! So far my sister-in-law Britta, and my sister Emma are coming! We would love to have a whole pack of runners!! It is Oct.19.

make sure you have really "pump-you-up" songs. some of my favorites are black-eyed peas, kelly clarkson (angry girl music). basically anything with with a loud fast beat helps me run better and dismiss the pain easier.

i would totally be in if i wasn't out:(

Darn. I'm so sad I live in Oregon. Maybe next time... ;)

Seriously, though, GOOD FOR YOU! I would like to do something like that just to say I could, but I don't want to say it bad enough. I'm just trying to get my legs to WALK again.

I'm rootin' for you. :)

If you hate running . . . do what I do: don't. I have never enjoyed running more than when I am not doing it. ;)

Go Sarah! I still can't believe I am going to do my sprint triathlon, but for Thanksgiving I decided I am going to do a 5k and stick to those until I get good at them, then move up. My only advice is to stick with it. I don't feel prepared at all for my race coming up even though i have been training for awhile now. It just seems so out of reach, but I made a goal and I want to stick to it and say that I did it! I know you can do it!! i miss you!

Hahahaha Scott. I think I agree with you...after reading it about five or six times...

One time and one time only, I enjoyed running on the sand on the Oregon coast. I got that runners high "they" (whoever they are) talk about. It was a feeling of euphoria. It wasn't euphoric enough to keep running though. ;)

p.s. I think the date is October 16th.

I don't love the feeling of running, but I love the way I feel during the days while I'm running regularly.

I think if you hate running you should find something you love, although you may find after your first race you love it. The more you do it the better you feel and races are so much fun. I agree, good music is a must. Sometimes a running partner of equal ability helps keep you accountable and excited to go.

You may think of other sports that interest you as well, that provide good exercise. I love triathlons because of the diversity of biking, swimming, and running. I can mix it up each day. I Love to ride my bike. It makes me feel like a kid again. Find easy trails or back country roads with little traffic and enjoy :-) That may help with running too. Find places you enjoy to run. Personally I don't like the road so I avoid it like the plague.

Good luck with your race. I hope you do love it by the end.

If you keep running and do another 5K sometime in the future I'd be interested in joining you.

that would be awesome Dad! Maybe next early summer we can plan a trip for you to come out! Maybe I could do a 10K by then!?

I don't know if your dad could though! heh heh (hoepfully he'll never read this!)

ahhaha! I would love to do a family race! and Dad is a pretty good runner! I remember he ran with me a few years back and I was keeping up with him!
The only advice I have is wear good shoes! haha
Francisco and I started running a little instead of walking and oh man I didn't realize how hard it is to start up again!

Ok,it's settled, looks like everyone wants to run or cheer so next reunion is set around a 5K :-)

Karen K. said...

Emily, are you planning to run while prego? ;)

Sarah Peterson said...

seriously- it will be hard to plan a 5K when no one is pregnant. I won't be pregnant early next summer... but then again I guess you never know.

It's been one week since a new picture of the girls. I'm getting tired of this post. ;)

Is Emily pregnant now? Oh, and I can certainly guarantee I will NOT be pregnant if that counts :-)

Karen K. said...

No, Emily isn't pregnant now. ...are you, Em? (Don't ask Francisco, he'll say she is) ;) She is contemplating planning to be by next summer though? Ok. I won't be pregnant either. hahahahahaha

Yeah, if we did a 5k during our reunion, I would either walk or cheer from the sidelines. I did plan to walk one last year (when I was about 7 mos) with another prego lady, but she went into labor (sort of) the night before... and I didn't want to walk by myself. So hopefully I'd be up to it with this next baby!
