Why is sleep with children so frustrating!? Claire has actually been pretty good to us when it comes to sleep- as far as babies go that is. She has always gone right to sleep at 8:00 pm every night. Lately though she has decided she would like a later bed time. Try maybe 11:00? NO Claire- NO! This is NOT okay. You see- she goes down at 8, but then 20 minutes later what do I hear? WHAAAA! Screaming... and you think maybe she will stop, but no, she just gets louder as time passes until she is blue in the face. So- I've tried rocking her back to sleep immediately- didn't work, I 've tried letting her cry it out, nope... then I've tried letting her hang out until she decided it is time to go back down again. That seems to work- but then I have Claire around for another few hours. UGH. I need a break from her- while I am AWAKE preferably! Any ideas? Do you think I should try putting her down earlier? I am all out of ideas. She has only done it the past week, but it is quickly becoming the norm...

aww sarah, this would be very frustrating for me too. my thoughts are that this is just a phase, I would just keep putting her to bed at the normal time, and hopefully eventually she'll be back to normal. It's very possible she is teething too, and that messes up everything. good luck.
Sarah that is a really cute picture! I'm sorry Claire doesn't want to sleep when you want her to. And that is so exciting that your sister is pregnant! Already 4 months!- I just posted, you might want to read it, and no I'm not pregnant. I love you.
Let's see...Sam didn't sleep well until we removed the crib rail when he was a year. Then he didn't sleep thru the night until he was ~2. He still has phases of not sleeping thru the night and I have to sit with him until he falls asleep. Ben has just the last three nights started sleeping thru the night, he's 10 months. I've pretty much weaned him except right before I put him to sleep and I try to put him to sleep drowsy. So...I've hardly had a good nights rest in 3.5 years and I hope I did not jinx myself with Ben. I don't believe in letting them cry it out. Tried it, won't do it. I think you just have to find what works for your child. I think you should just keep doing what you always have done. It may be temporary sleeplessness. Someday she will sleep just fine. I have confidence in that.
Maybe try waking her up earlier and keeping her naps shorter. I know naps are great, but they are short and bedtime is long. I dunno, Haylee doesn't sleep through the night yet and she is almost 3 months old. Good luck!
thankyou sarah- i love you
I'll bet it's just a phase. Just keep up with her normal bedtime routine and she'll get the idea. We've been so blessed when it comes to kids sleeping. All 3 of our have slept through the night by 2 months. Be consistent and she'll get back to normal. Perhaps she's teething? That really messed Sarah up for a few weeks when she got her first couple teeth.
I'm with Melissa!!! Instead of trying different things to get her back to sleep, just keep doing what you did before and putting her down at the same time and she will HOPEFULLY get back into the swing of things!
Ayden did the same thing, and Byron used to do it every few months as a baby.
Personally, I think it's a sign of a smart baby who is already learning she can control a situation if she tries hard enough!! Doesn't that usually happen LATER?! Like around 6 months? She is a little doll though!
Honestly you have to find what will work for you! If you continue to get her out of bed and let her stay up "I think" she will probably continue to do this. So whether it's letting her cry, or staying in the room with her and not picking her up, or going in and giving her the binky every few minutes to let her know your there. Eventually she'll realize that it's bedtime and the more consistent you are with what you choose to do the faster she'll figure it out. It's a phase my kids went through too and your right it is FRUSTRATING! Hope it gets better soon.
Sarah! I'm so glad that someone else is having trouble. Elle has always been a great sleeper until about a month ago, she now wakes up 2-3 times a night and I've tried everything staying up late, going down early, eating late, eating early, bottle, food, etc, nothing is working!! When you have the answer PLEASE let me know!
I like what Dawn says: "or staying in the room with her and not picking her up, or going in and giving her the binky every few minutes to let her know you're there..." It'll get better. I understand how frustrating it is... I'm here living it with you! ;)
