Pretty Purple Pansies

Here's the pot filled with our new tree and pansies instead of Olivia!

Talk about putting your foot in your mouth...

What we have to look forward to:
Spring in Utah is all about extremes! A cold storm system is moving towards the state and it means snow. Rain will develop on Tuesday and then change over to snow during the afternoon lasting into Wednesday. The mountains will see 1-2 feet and the valleys should see several inches. Highs will fall from the 70s of today to the 40s by Wednesday. Kevin Eubank - Live 5 Weather
will my pansies make it!?

I like your tree it's cute!

I'm not an expert, but I think your pansies will be fine (they are spring weather flowers, and they are all over Utah), but I would probably put your windowsill pots in the house or garage and cover the flowers in the bigger pot with a sheet. It'll keep the frost off.

I love your tree--what is it? Did you tell me you got the pots at Walmart? They're pretty. I'm thinking I should change our ugly whiskey barrels to those pots. Much classier!

Your pansies are pretty. They will be fine. Pansies are HEARTY! I have them planted outside our house and also outside the office. I know from experience that they'll survive very cold temps (teens). They will look all frozen and dead in the morning and then later in the day after they've warmed up they look like nothing's happened to them. I always plant them in the late Fall (the nurseries put them out sometime in the fall) and let them grow over the winter. They don't seem to need much water when it's cold, just damp soil. Because it's drier there, though you might have to water more often. Dad says you might want to take them down to water them. He says to be careful because of the stucco on your house--you don't want the plants to drain on it all the time. I'll try to remember to take a picture of my pansies that have grown over the winter at work. They're looking pretty good--on their way out, but pretty. They finally filled up the pot they're in! It's nice to have color outside the office door in the dreary, rainy, gray Oregon winters.

And...finally, I LOVE that little baby. I'm glad her foot is CLEAN! Yum Yum.

Here's Kristen's forcast: It will snow! We got about 2 inches last night and this is the same storm that is headed your way.

I've had pansies grow during the summer and come back the next spring. However, plants in pots don't have the same rules as plants in the ground. I'd move them to the garage over night. My potted plants always freeze before the plants in the ground.

You should not have to move your flowers. This came from a site on the internet and I have found it (year after year after year...) to be accurate:

"Pansies are a remarkable winter annual capable of surviving temperatures down to the single digits, freezing solid, then bouncing back with vigor when warm weather returns."

Good Luck. If they freeze and don't come back the next day I promise to buy you new ones. Deal?

I re-read some of my comments. All I wanted to convey was that pansies survive just about everything...Unfortunately, however, I sounded pushy and overzealous. I'm sorry! (How are they doing anyway?)

Do you have to work on your birthday???

it's ok Ma- the flowers seem to be okay so far. I have the day off on Saturday... I'm taking it off and
Mark really hasn't said anything, hopefully he's not mad at me. Who knows... Well, it did snow but only like an inch and only stuck in the grass not the roads. So- it really wasn't too bad.

by the way- we don't know what the tree is- none of them had tags or info about them. We asked the worker and they had no idea either. Hopefully it survives and I can take care of it properly! I'm guessing it likes sun and some water- isn't that what most trees like!?
